Not a picnic party. A serious wildlife expedition with international standards.
We use small houseboats with shallow drafts to reach narrow channels where larger boats cannot go. More channels = more wildlife.
Silent wooden rowing boats for dawn creek exploration. No engine noise means wildlife doesn't scatter. This is how you actually see animals.
Our guides are trained naturalists focused on spotting Royal Bengal tigers, crocodiles, dolphins and birds — not on group entertainment.
All Bangladesh Forest Department permits, entry fees and armed forest guard included. No surprise costs at the gate.
Clean bedding, filtered water, hygienic cooking on board. Food safety is a priority — food poisoning on a boat in the forest is a serious problem we avoid.

Setting Expectations — What You May See
The Sundarbans is a wild ecosystem — not a zoo or controlled game reserve. Wildlife sightings depend on season, tide, route, time of day and chance. No operator can guarantee a tiger sighting, and any that do should be viewed with scepticism.

Rare — possible
Apex Predator · Rare Sighting
Panthera tigris tigris
The Sundarbans holds one of Earth's last wild Royal Bengal tiger populations. These tigers swim between islands and hunt in tidal shallows. Sightings are never guaranteed — most visitors encounter pugmarks, claw marks or the occasional glimpse from a watchtower. That uncertainty is the point.
Best chance: Dawn near freshwater pools and watchtowers. Patience is essential.
Very Common · Forest Edges
Axis axis
The most frequently encountered large mammal in the Sundarbans. Large herds gather near watchtowers and mudflats at dawn and dusk — beautiful and reliable subjects for photography.
Best chance: Grassy clearings and forest edges at low tide.
Common · River Basking
Crocodylus porosus
One of the world's largest reptiles — adults exceed 5 metres. Regularly spotted basking on mudflats and riverbanks in the dry winter months.
Best chance: Scan mudflats and riverbanks during morning boat journeys.
Regular · Main Channels
Orcaella brevirostris / Platanista gangetica
Two dolphin species inhabit the Sundarbans waterways. Irrawaddy dolphins frequently surface in wider channels; the critically endangered Ganges river dolphin appears in calmer creeks. Both are sensitive ecosystem indicators.
Best chance: Watch the water surface in wide main channels.
Occasional · Creek Banks
Lutrogale perspicillata / Aonyx cinerea
Both smooth-coated and Asian clawless otters inhabit creek banks and mudflats. Most active at dawn and sometimes seen playing in family groups.
Best chance: Low-tide mornings in narrow creek channels.
Constant · Birdwatching Paradise
Including 9 kingfisher species
Nine species of kingfisher from tiny common to spectacular stork-billed. White-bellied sea eagles, lesser adjutant storks, ospreys and migratory species make this one of South Asia's best birding destinations.
Best chance: Dawn on narrow creeks. Binoculars essential at all times.

A Sundarbans tour is primarily a boat-based wildlife expedition. You move through tidal rivers, creeks and mangrove channels — not between conventional sightseeing spots.
Pre-Dawn · 5 – 6 AM
Silent Creek Exploration
The most important time of day. The houseboat switches to a silent rowing boat and enters narrow creeks. Wildlife is most active. The forest is completely quiet except for birdsong and water.
Morning · 7 – 11 AM
Watchtowers & Forest Walks
Visit watchtowers at key wildlife points. Guided forest walks on permitted trails. Birdwatching in the canopy. Spotted deer on mudflats. Crocodiles basking on riverbanks.
Afternoon · 12 – 4 PM
Larger Channels & Rest
The houseboat moves through wider waterways. Fresh Bengali lunch cooked on board. Dolphins sometimes spotted in main channels. The heat of midday is a quieter period.
Evening · 5 PM +
Sunset & Night in the Forest
Sunset on the river — one of the most photographed moments of any Sundarbans trip. The houseboat anchors in a new location. No engine noise after dark. The sounds of the forest take over.
Accommodation
Cabins or berths with basic beds and linen. Fan or AC depending on the vessel. You are sleeping inside the Sundarbans forest — comfort is functional, not hotel-grade, and that's part of the authenticity.
Food
Meals cooked fresh on board by the boat cook — rice, dal, fish and vegetables in Bengali style. Vegetarian options available on request. The food is consistently praised by international travellers.
Bathroom
Basic bathroom facilities on board. Hot water is not always available. Come prepared and you'll find it entirely manageable. This is a genuine wilderness expedition.
The two main ways to experience the Sundarbans are fundamentally different.
Tripzic recommendation: For maximum wildlife immersion, a houseboat expedition is the better choice — you're already inside the forest at dawn when wildlife is most active. For families with young children or travellers who prefer hotel-standard comfort, a resort-based tour with day trips is a perfectly valid alternative.

Avoid bright colours in the forest. Muted greens, khakis and dark blues reduce your visibility to wildlife. Leave single-use plastics at home — the Sundarbans is a protected UNESCO zone.
The Sundarbans is one of Earth's most ecologically sensitive ecosystems. Tripzic partners with operators who follow forest authority guidelines, maintain small group sizes, use silent boats in wildlife areas and leave no trace.
